The Nobel Peace Prize 2004 presented to Wangari Maathai

The Nobel Peace Prize 2004 was on Friday presented to professor and
environmental activist Wangari Maathai from Kenya the at the Oslo City Hall,
by the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Ole Danbolt Mjoes.

"We are all here to honour you, Wangari Maathai", he said.
His greeting was followed by "Ave Maria" by Shubert, sung by Andrea Bocelli,
accompanied by Carlo Bermini.

Danbolt Mjoes then presented Wangari Maathai with the Nobel Peace Prize Gold
Medal and the diploma.

Bocelli, who also performed at Friday's solemn award ceremony in Oslo, said he felt honoured to represent with his voice what the peace prize stands for.
"Of course it is a great honour," Bocelli said in a recent interview. "But it is an achievement for me because playing in front of people that have such a high spirituality means for me that those are people who understand art very well."
