Tenor
Bocelli overcomes his opera phantoms for Hong Kong appearance
HONG KONG (AFP) - Italian opera star Andrea Bocelli (news - web
sites)
revealed he still gets stage fright and doubts the quality of his
world
famous voice, which will entertain a Hong Kong audience for the
first time
this week
The blind tenor, in the territory on the sixth stop of an Asia and
Oceania
tour, told reporters his biggest weakness was stage fright,
despite his
having performed all over the world.
"I'm always afraid of the stage but I try not to think about
it. I would
think about the beautiful countryside I grew up in Italy," he
told reporters
ahead of his concert here Friday.
(...)
"I ask myself every morning whether I have a beautiful voice.
It's the thing
about singers. You have doubts about your voice, whether my voice
is strong
enough," he said, speaking through a translator.

Bocelli said his tour of China last year had shown him that the
Chinese were
open to learning about other cultures.
"From the contact I've had with the people (in China), I
discovered the
Chinese people are very open to other cultures and are very
dynamic.
"They appreciate Italian art and I've learned a lot from
their experience,"
he said.

Andrea Bocelli to perform in Singapore on Monday night
By Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia
SINGAPORE: His has been called the most beautiful voice in the
world.
Andrea Bocelli, one of the few tenors to have made that
successful crossover to pop appeal, will perform in Singapore on
Monday night.

The maestro's first love remains classical and opera music though.
But where does he stand in relation to the big three tenors?
"I think there is no place between them....I try to be myself
and I don't compare my career to theirs because I think a career
like Pavarotti's, Carreras' and Domingo's cannot be repeated - too
big. But I do my best and I am very happy because my story is like
a fairy tale," said Andrea Bocelli.
With millions of CDs sold worldwide in the last 10 years, that's
for sure.
On a lighter note, when it comes to what the tenor himslf listens
to, it's his children who control the dials.
Andrea Bocelli said: "In the car, I often listen to the radio
and I am happy to listen to pop music, especially when I am with
my children. They don't like opera, of course. They are able to
convince me to listen to everything, especially rock rap or soul."
Andrea Bocelli plays a one-night concert at the Indoor Stadium
Monday night.
