On January 25, Andrea and Celine Dion sing "The Prayer" from the soundtrack of Warner Bros. animated film "Quest for Camelot" at the Golden Globes 1999 - the 56. Hollywood Foreign Press Association Awards -  in Los Angeles.  They win the Award as "Best song in a movie".
 
 
 
 
At the Grammys on February 24 in Los Angeles, Andrea is one of five nominated for "Best New Artist."
He doesn't win this Grammy, in fact, but gains more fans through his appearance with Celine Dion on the show. They sing "The Prayer" and receive a standing ovation.
 
 

 

 
 
 
At the presentation of the Oscars on March 21, Andrea and Celine sing the "Best Song" nominee, "The Prayer". He sings the song before more than 2 billion people watching on television all over the world.
However, the Oscar goes to "When you Believe" from "The Prince of Egypt".
 
 

 

 
On March 22, his sixth album "Sogno" is released.
He introduces it on March 18 in Rome.

From April 11 to April 24, he tours the West coast of America. He finishes his concerts, from San Diego to Vancouver, with a triumphant appearance in front of more than 18,000 spectators at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Elizabeth Taylor is among many celebrities in attendance. She is standing at his side on the stage during the encore, while he sings "The Prayer".

 

 
 
 
On May 15, at the invitation of Steven Spielberg, Andrea sings  in Los Angeles in front of President Clinton and many well-known personalities at an event on behalf of the Democratic party. He was celebrated enthusiastically when singing
"My Way".
 
 
 
 
 
At the end of May he tours in Portugal and Spain and for the first time he sings there live with the Portuguese Fado singer Dulce Pontes in front of his fans, one of them the famous soccer player Eusebio.
 
 
 
 
 
On June 27 he participates at the Michael Jackson benefit concert for suffering children in Munich's Olympic Stadium.

On September 10, together with soprano Daniela Dessi and two Polish singers, he gives a triumphant concert in the Great Theatre of Lodz, Poland. In addition, he presents himself from the balcony to the thousands of fans gathered in front of the theater to watch the video transmission.

From October 7 to November 19 he goes to the United States for his American debut as Massenet's Werther in Detroit. He is cheered by the public, but criticized negatively by the press.

At the same time he manages to conquer even more the hearts of the American public of all  classes by giving an exquisite concert at Hollywood's Rodeo Drive, more concerts in Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago and a humorous appearance on Jay Leno's  famous Tonight Show. Moreover, Mayor Rudy Giuliani gives him the Crystal Apple, an award of the city of New York given to celebrated personalities   
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
His seventh album "Sacred Arias", which contains exclusively sacred music, is released worldwide on November  8, and which two weeks later conquers first place on America's Classic Billboard charts, followed by "Aria" in second place, and  "Viaggio Italiano" in third place.

The album also includes the hymn of the holy year 2000. Andrea's interpretation was chosen as the official version by the Vatican in October.
 
Still in the same month he becomes the first vocalist to hold the top three places on the US classical album charts: With his album Sacred Arias, Aria - The Opera Album and Viaggio Italiano. This is record for the Guiness Book of World Records
 
 Immediately after his return to Italy he sings in Florence at the meeting of the center-left  heads of State.
 
 
 
Invited by the Queen of England, he participates at her annual Royal Variety Performance in Birmingham on November 29.
 
 
 
 
 
On November 30, his book "La musica del silenzio," an autobiographical novel,  is released in Italy.

From December 12 to 21 he performs in  6 concerts in Barcelona, Strasbourg, Lisbon, Zagreb, Budapest and Messina, directed by Maestro Lorin Maazel, some of which are broadcast on local television.
 
 
 
 
 
In December the German public finally has the opportunity to see him again twice, live on television  (Wetten dass? December 11 and the Josè Carreras Gala Dec 17). Now he can enter the new millennium with three CDs on the German charts: "Sacred Arias" (Position 3), "Sogno" (Position 26) and "Romanza" (Position 64 - media control album charts 12-27-1999).
 
 
 
On December 31, he finishes a marathon of 24 concerts in 30 days, giving a concert at New York's Nassau Colosseum in front of 8000 people, and  welcomes the new millenium.
